ALL SCIENCES This is a website developed by students for the Think Quest Competition.
It covers all the sciences and is full of activities, from VRML tours
to online games. An incredible site! Really worth visiting! This resource provides a series of experiments on line, ranging from
easy to advanced. It not only gives teachers ideas for lessons and science
experiments, but also allows for collaboration and feedback. ASTRONOMY Welcome to the solar system simulator, a NASA/JPL/Caltech spyglass on
the cosmos. Select from the options below to have the simulator create
a color image of your favorite planet or satellite! A fun tool to use
with your astronomy lessons. This is a great resource to use with your kids. They can learn about
facts, visit the planets, play games, and much more. It offers lessons
and activities: THE BRAIN This site, also made by students for the Think Quest competition, has
rich information on this mysterious organ, as well as many interactive
activities and resources. GENETICS During this project, students will complete surveys, formulate hypotheses,
and use the data compiled by students around the globe to test their hypotheses. This is a web quest on genetic manipulation of plants. Students study
how this is affecting the products we consume, and how unaware people
are of what kinds of manipulations are being done. The challenge is to
take an in depth look at this topic and come up with a legislation to
control this type of activity. This is an interactive site where students are challenged to become genetic
counselors. It is still being developed, but can give you a good idea
for an interactive online lesson. SIMULATIONS Here you will find a series of Simulation labs, with varying themes,
all done with Shockwave technology. Students get to experience virtually
experiments that can be done at home, landscape changes tied in to Geology,
probing the brain, building a carbon atom, traveling through time to follow
the human evolution, seeing how sound travels, visiting doctors from different
times, and replicating a strand of DNA and forming a protein. MATH This is a great resource for math teachers. Here you will find many interactive
activities on all sorts of different math topics. Probably the best-known math site, The Math Forum has all kinds of activities,
games, and contests that make math fun: This site has fun finish-the-picture games: This site has math games, stories, writing, and more... This site runs weekly math contests. Try the Elementary Brain Teaser
and the Middle School Madness exercises. The focus of the Great Chocolate Experience IV
is "m&m® Math or m&m® Fractional Math. Schools from all over
the United States & Canada will be divided into 6 geographical regions.
Students will estimate "fun-size" bags of m&m®’s to determine
packaging patterns with regard to number, color and region. Schools will
have the opportunity to participate in optional activities including the
submission of stories, poems, recipes, etc. SITES THAT LIST OTHER SITES This is a short list of some very good examples of science sites. It
goes from resources to tools that you can use in your classroom. Here is a complete list of the best science sites made by students. Here
you will find sites produced by students, covering all imaginable areas
of science. Great activities have been prepared to enhance your lessons! WOMEN IN SCIENCE Another site made by students for the Think Quest competition. This site
focuses on the role of women in science, in an attempt to get more girls
interested in scientific careers. |
