Our goal for this and the workshops scheduled to follow on March 30th and April 6th, will be to develop the skills necessary for designing a WebQuest- a web based strategy for structuring student work using the resources available on the world wide web. Therefore, you should come to this workshop with a unit, theme, or topic that lends itself to research and/or investigation by students. This will provide the basis for Webliography we will develop during this session.
3:00-3:30: Create a "Webliography" of sites using the Track Star format. We'll go through the process together the first time and then, you will have the remainder of the workshop to develop your "track". Remember that this track will potentially provide the resources which your students will consult as they investigate their WebQuest.
You may build your own track, or if you prefer, use and amend one of the tracks that have already been created. You should have no less than five sites in your Webliography

3:30-4:00: An Evaluation Strategy to Determine the Quality of Your Websites
Consider any five websites that students might visit to learn more about that topic.
Using the evaluation instrument (Thinking Critically about World Wide Web Resources) provided, assess any five sites that you have listed in your Webliography and then, select two of these sites for further consideration. Based on your evaluation, determine whether you would keep or discard these two sites and discuss why you made the choice you did.
4:15-4:30: Reflection / Evaluate Yourself and Your Progress
How did it go? Do you have a firm project idea yet? Did you have any brainstorms about how you might use some of the strategies introduced this evening in your classrooms? What do you want to remember for next time?
Log on to the WebQuest About WebQuests site and follow the directions. Be sure to download and fill out the Worksheet. Also be careful to approach the WebQuest About WebQuests from the standpoint of your role.
