P.S. 156 has a strong curriculum with high standards for all children, which is further enhanced by instruction in music, dance and a literature-based art program. We place a strong emphasis on writing, as evidenced by our monthly student newspaper and our daily journals. Our students are also part of the Teachers and Writers Collaborative. Spanish as a second language is taught using an oral language approach. We provide abundant staff development for teachers. We have instituted portfolio assessment as another way to look at our students, since we feel that standardized test scores are not always a fair indication of a child's progress. P.S. 156 is a school on the move and is a place we are all proud of.
