City & Country School is dedicated to the belief that the desire to learn is one of the strongest of all human drives and that the most important respoinsibility of educators is to nurture this drive in every constructive way. Implicit in this is a fundamental respect for children and their different styles of learning. In order to fulfill this responsibility we must remain true to the words of Caroline Pratt "...fit the school to the child, not the child to the school." We think learning is a passionate experience. We stress the importance of the process of learning and help children come to the realization that most often knowing how to find the answer or ask the question is more useful than the answer irself. We encourage children to try things for themselves, to explore and draw conclusions without fear of failure. We provide opportunities through which children come to value themselves, other people, ideas, skills, resonsiblities, and hard work.
