This school, named for an African-American who was one of the nation's greatest designers/engineers, will provide a small, personal atmosphere, bound to the community it serves, where students engage in a continuous process of problem-solving, using the tools and resources usually available only to designers, urban planners and engineers. Here, the aesthetics of design will be combined with the function of community service and development. Our MISSION is to engage students in acquiring knowledge and skills to adapt to a multicultural, scientific, and technological environment; to draw upon community resources to produce socially responsible, lifelong learners, prepared for the world of work and higher education and committed to community development.
