Since its founding in 1804, the New York Historical Society has been dedicated to the preservation of collections which illuminate the American Experience. For nearly two centuries, it has accumulated and preserved vast collections of material relating to the history of the city, state and nation. The missio nof the Society is to use its unparalleled collections to help New Yorkers understand the complex and diverse past behind the world we know today. The Society is dedicated to making these unique resources accessible and relevant to all students and teachers. Our educators collaborate with teachers to develop lessons that are uniquely designed to fit the needs of each classroom. By introducing the creative process of historical research, these lessons encourage students to develop independent conclusions based on their research on primary sources such as maps, photographs, and newspapers. The New York Historical Society offers FREE programs to schools in the five boroughs.
