Incorporated in 1975, the Boys Choir of Harlem has grown from a small church to a major performing arts institution, and is continually evolving. The world renown choir tours over 100 dates a year and appears regularly on network television and in movies. In 1993, a unique partnerhsip was formed with Community School District 5 and New York City Board of Education Divisio of Alternative High Schools to open the Boys Choir Academy of Harlem. The Choir Academy attendees perform all genres of classics, from Beethoven to Count Basie to Bartok. The Choir Academy of Harlem provides a positive, creative, alternative for inner city children from New York's five boroughs. With its conservatory-like atmosphere, the school is both an artistic and humanitarian institution.
